A method wherein a benzene-containing composition (A) is reacted with an ethylene-containing composition (B) in an alkylation reaction which promotes the formation of polyethylbenzene in the resulting alkylate, whereafter said alkylate is subjected to at least one distillation/rectification process to give a di- and tri-ethylbenzene-rich distillate (18), and finally said distillate (18) is transalkylated with benzene (22) to make it richer in ethylbenzene.
