PURPOSE:To enable a large amount of activated carbon to be milled and to prevent self-discharge from occurring by a method wherein activated carbon milled by a metal mill is used as a polarizable electrode, and alkaline solution is used as electrolytic solution. CONSTITUTION:Activated carbon used for a polarizable electrode 2 of an electric double-layer capacitor 1 is milled by a metal mill such as a rotary mill, oscillating mill, a roller mill, an impact mill, or the like. At this point, activated carbon is crashed into microparticles of several to several tens of microns in diameter so as not to reach to an opposed electrode breaking through a separator 3. Alkaline water solution such as potassium hydroxide, sodium hydroxide or the like is used as electrolytic solution. By this setup, a large amount of activated carbon used for a polarizable electrode can be milled, and even if heavy metal particles contained in activated carbon milled by a metal mill are mixed into alkaline water solution, heavy metal is prevented from liquating out, so that a heavy metal removing process where hydrochloric acid is used for cleaning can be dispensed with. Therefore, a self-discharge caused by heavy metal can be prevented. |
