[Also in Division D1] Films and filaments consisting of polyamide are bonded by exposing them to an atmosphere containing SO 3 , Cl 2 or gaseous HCl and absorbing and desorbing the activator from the surface of the articles. The activator may be mixed with air or nitrogen during absorption. The activator can be desorbed by heating or by a sodium bicarbonate, sodium hydroxide or amine wash bath, or by treating with gaseous ammonia. The polymer may be nylon 66, nylon 6, a blend of polyamide and polyester or a polyurethane. The articles may be non-woven fabrics, films or strips. The nylon filaments of the fabric can be crimped and may be blended with cotton or wool fibres. |
