PURPOSE:To eliminate the flame failure and flicker when polarity is inverted by storing the energy stored in the inductance component of a load circuit into a capacitor, and raising it to the voltage capable of restriking a discharge lamp. CONSTITUTION:A diode 25 serving as at least one switching element is provided between a DC power source 1 and an inverter circuit 2 driven by the power source 1, and the current flowing back from the circuit 2 to the power source 1 is blocked. A load circuit having an inductance component 23 in series with a discharge lamp 3 and a starting circuit 4 is connected to the circuit 2 and driven. The diode 25 blocks the backflow of the energy stored in the inductance component 23 of the load circuit into the power source 1 when the inverter polarity is inverted. The energy is stored into the capacitor 26 of an inverter circuit input section, and the capacitor voltage is raised to the voltage capable of restriking the lamp 3 to assist the restriking of the lamp 3. The flame failure and flicker when the polarity of the lamp current is inverted are eliminated. |
