PURPOSE:To provide a secondary battery the self-discharge of which less occurs and the storability of which is high, by causing a specified quantity of-specified anionic surface-active agent to be carried in the surface of a negative electrode. CONSTITUTION:A hydride secondary battery is formed by a positive electrode containing nickel oxide or nickel hydroxide, a negative electrode containing a hydrogen storage alloy, an aqueous alkali solution as an electrolyte, etc. When causing an anionic surface-active agent such as fluorine type surface-active agent to be carried in the surface of this negative electrode to an extent of 0.01 to 0.1wt% as measured with respect to the hydrogen storage alloy, separation of hydrogen atoms from the hydrogen storage alloy is suppressed, while oxidation of the negative electrode by oxygen generated from the positive electrode is suppressed, to obtain a hydride secondary battery the self-discharge of which less occurs and the storability of which is enhanced. |
