The system optically projects an image onto glass (9) covering instruments on a dashboard of a motor vehicle. The image is projected by a display generator (8) placed above the instrument cover glass. The angle of the cover glass and the display generator position allow the driver to see the display from the normal driving position. To prevent formation of a double image the display generator delivers polarised light, and a polarising layer (14), crossed with the display generator polarity, is placed on one face of the glass. The thickness of the glass is also reduced in the reflective region. USE/ADVANTAGE Overcomes difficulty in obtaining undistorted display free of double images that arises with projection onto vehicle windscreen.
