Borica cid, borate and/or (NH4)2CO3, NH4HCO3, carbamic acid and esp. silicates of natural or synthetic origin, are added to a silicic acid hydrogel. Al2O3 in a suitable form can also added. The constituents are mixed and kneaded together for >5 mins. The sol. sets rapidly if F- or complex cpds. are introduced. The product is washed free of ions with water, dried at 800 degrees C (200 degrees C) and sub-divided to the optimum grain size for the end use envisaged, the enhanced adsorption capacity being esp. useful for removal of albumin from liquors, wines and beers. |
