The inner shell (3'') has a zigzag profile in its cross-section with rectangular projections (31'') between wider grooves (32'') which can accommodate parts of the vehicular equipment, such as electric cable looms (7,7'). The projections and grooves extend throughout the length of the inner shell whose edges are sandwiched between those of the outer shell (2) and of the interior cladding (5). A hinge (16) enables the cladding to be pivoted into a horizontal position (5') for access to the inner shell. USE/ADVANTAGE - In private cars, chassis member is strongly resistant to distortion and affords easy access to e.g. electric cable looms laid in its grooves.
