The ribbon cable has sections (BD1-BD4), each containing several optical fibres (LW1-LW4), held together in a pile. The optical fibres of each section are held together by a connecting material (VM1-VM4). The sections are respectively connected to each other by an intermediate layer (ZS1-ZS3). The intermediate layers are formed from a material whose fracturing strength is less than that of the connecting material which binds the optical fibres together in each section. ADVANTAGE - Has compact structure which permits higher packing density of strip conductors.
