An apparatus 10 for transferring a liquid 31, eg radioactive material, poison, hazardous substance, food or medicine between sealed containers 30 and 32, has a cylindrical body 12, a partition wall 14 provided at an intermediate of the interior of the cylindrical body to form recesses 16a, 16b for receiving sealed containers 30 and 32 at the ends of the cylindrical body 12. A liquid transfer needle tube 18 extends from one of the recesses to the other of the recesses through the partition wall, and a gas suction needle tube 20 is held in the partition wall so that one end of the gas suction needle tube projects into one of the recesses and the other is opened to the outside of the cylindrical body. Needle tube 18 passes diagonally through the partition wall 14 but is parallel with the axis of the body 12 within the recesses 16a and 16b. The needle tube 20 passes through the partition wall 14 opening out at the bottom of counter bore 22. Tubes 18 and 20 pierce the plugs 34 of the containers to allow liquid transfer. Container 32 to which the liquid is to be transferred is decompressed prior to transfer. The plugs 34 may be made from self sealing neoprene. Preferably the ends of needle tubes 18 and 20 do not project beyond the ends of body 12. By varying the length of the end of tube 18 to be placed in container 30 the amount of liquid transferred can be controlled.
