A hinged window has a frame (10) which is hinged to a fixed frame (11) so that the window swings about the vertical axis (51). The window is provided with an additional safety device (30,40) which is fitted between the hinges. The device consists of a vertically mounted lever (20) which can swing about a horizontal axis in a fitting (40) which is fitted in a groove (14) in the hinged frame. The lower end of the lever engages a fitting (30) attached to the fixed frame. The device allows the window to be opened by swinging it about the hinge axis but prevents the window from being forced open on its hinged edge. ADVANTAGE - Provides extra security for high windows with hinges spaced far apart from each other.
