Three-armed universal shaft joint - has arms and recesses for them at unequal angular intervals

The universal joint has an outer half (1) with three recesses (2) round the periphery extending in the axial direction and forming tracks; and a spider-type inner half (6) with three radial arms on which rollers slide and turn. The central planes of the recesses are at unequal intervals round a common pitch circle. The angles between them can be between 110 and 130 deg., on of them being 120 deg. The rollers can be on needle-roller bearings, which can be self-aligning. USE/ADVANTAGE - Universal joint reduces noise, vibration and harshness.
