A weedkiller which contains a microorganism of the genus Ustilago as an active ingredient and is useful for controlling weeds of the genus Echinochloa, such as Japanese millet; a method of controlling the weeds with a microorganism of the genus Ustilago; and novel microorganisms usable as the active ingredient of the weedkiller, i.e., Ustilago trichophora B-171 (FIRM BP-3968), Ustilago trichophora B-174 (FIRM BP-3969), and Ustilago Trichophora B-185 (FIRM BP-3970).
