A magnetically coupled pump is protected from damage by provision of an inductive proximity switch 39 between the outer wall 25 and the outer rotor 22 so that if the outer rotor is in danger of wobbling sufficiently to cause contact, the switch detects this condition before damage can occur and stops the pump motor.
