Antimicrobial compositions containing effective ingredients composed of antimicrobial peptides derived from horseshoe crab, their derivatives or pharmaceutically acceptable salts and a beta -lactam antibiotic or chloramphenicol antibiotic. Defensive agents against opportunistic infections containing the composition as effective ingredients. The compositions exhibit bactericidal effect against methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus spp. (MRSAs) at low concentrations and are useful as antimicrobial agents, particularly for the prevention and treatment of opportunistic infections.
