Described is a novel process for the preparation of carboxylic acid chlorides of aromatic nitrogen-containing heterocycles selected from the series of compounds of the general formula <IMAGE> by chlorinating hydroxycarboxylic acids of aromatic nitrogen-containing heterocycles selected from the series of compounds of the general formulae <IMAGE> The chlorination is carried out with a solution of phosphorus pentachloride in phosphorus oxychloride, the excess phosphorus pentachloride being converted into phosphorus oxychloride either using a C1-C4-carboxylic acid or a silane of the general formula (CH3)3-Si-OR9 VII and the product of the formulae I to III subsequently being isolated. |
