PRODUCTION OF RAW MATERIAL POWDERY SILICA FOR OPTICAL FIBER

PURPOSE:To provide the subject method for producing a raw material powdery silica capable of producing an optical fiber exhibiting a high transmission efficiency. CONSTITUTION:Powdery silica produced by flame hydrolysis is sieved and the resultant sieved powdery silica is subsequently dispersed in an inorganic acid such as HC1 so as to dissolve transition metals adhering to the powdery silica. The inorganic acid is then removed from the powder and the powder is dried.
