PURPOSE:To obtain the subject derivative useful as an intermediate for amino acid, etc., simply, safely, efficiently and in high yield by reducing a specific alkylidene hydantoin derivative with formic acid (salt) in the presence of a palladium catalyst. CONSTITUTION:A 5-alkylidenehydantoin derivative of formula I [R<1> and R<2> are H, (substituted) alkyl, (substituted) aryl or (substituted) heterocyclic] is reduced with formic acid or its salt in the presence of a palladium catalyst such as palladium carbon to give the objective derivative. |
