The luminescent screen (10') acting as an anode covers the inside of the front substrate (10). Into the vacuum space between this and the rear substrate (20), electrons are emitted from an array of parallel filamentary cathodes (40). Between the screen (10') and cathodes (40) the accelerating electrode (30) comprises a wire mesh deformed into a number of parallel channels (30') corresp. to the cathode spacing and convex towards the screen (10'). All emitted electrons undergo the same acceleration from the cathodes (40) to the screen.
