A direct sequence spread spectrum communications method whereby: at the transmitter, a highly accurate channel carrier is angle modulated with an audio or data signal and the modulated carrier in turn binary phase modulated by mixing in a double balanced mixer with a binary pseudo-random sequence to generate a suppressed carrier double sideband signal with a spectrum width determined by the clock rate of the pseudo-random sequence. The pseudo-random sequence, may be generated by a pre-stored sequence of data read from memory or from a maximal length shift register circuit or from a computational means. The spread spectrum signal is amplified in a power amplifier means and coupled to an antenna means for transmission.
