The invention relates to a machine for hardening soft ground (soft soil) at a depth, comprising elongate stirrer shafts which are provided with stirrer blades at bottom sections thereof and which are rotatably mounted on an elongate support cylinder, a rotating drive member to which the upper ends of the stirrer shafts are connected, a means for supplying a hardening agent in the vicinity of the stirrer blades, and a direction control unit which is able to move the support cylinder into the desired operating position and can keep it in that position during operation. According to the invention, the support cylinder is divided into a top section and a bottom section, the top section being joined to the bottom section by means of a universal hinge, a number of piston/cylinder combinations is dispersed between the top section and the bottom section of the support cylinder, and the stirrer shafts are divided into a top section and a bottom section which are joined together by means of a universal hinge.
