<p>Copolymers of monomers of formula (R1)(R2)C=C(R3)(R4) (I) in which (i) R1,R2,R3 and R4 = H, or (ii) R1 = Cl and R2,R3 and R4 = H or (iii) R1 and R2 are both Cl or F and R3 and R4 = H, or (iv) R1 = phenyl and R2,R3 and R4 = H, with fluorinated (meth)acrylates of formula (II) H2C=C(R)CO-O-(CH2)2-CnF(2n+1) (II) in which R = H or Me and n is a whole number greater than or equal to 1, the copolymers exhibiting a statistical distribution of comonomer units in the chain and having a content of 0.1-30, esp. 1-20 wt.% of the (meth)acrylate. A claimed copolymer is based on ethylene and acrylates of formula (II) in which R = H and n = 4-10, esp.6-8. USE/ADVANTAGE - The copolymers have advantageous melt flow properties and low surface energy to give good processing characteristics and slip properties. The prods. are esp. useful in the fabrication of ski soles as a replacement for the polyethylene conventionally used.</p> |
