The electronic components of a control circuit for an automatic transmission, e.g. a three-speed transmission, are enclosed in a casing 6 together with a switch coupled to the manual control 11, the casing being mounted on a flange 7 of the gear-box 1. The control circuit may be of the type described in Specification 1,151,226 and the components, e.g. transistor 55, Fig. 4, are mounted on parallel plates 50, 57 assembled on rods 33 in the casing. Journalled in the base of the casing is a shaft 43 coupled to the shaft 8 of the manual control and carrying at its inner end a rotor 41 having peripheral notches 40 co-operating with spring-loaded locating balls 39 carried by a ring 34 located on the rods 33. The rotor locates the control 11 in six positions, viz., first gear hold, automatic first and second gear, and the usual A, N, R, P positions, the control circuit being modified appropriately as the rotor moves, by wiper contacts 48, 49 carried thereby and engaging segmental contacts printed on the surface of plate 50. In the first two positions referred to, both or one of a pair of transistors controlling the first and second gear relays are by-passed by the switch. |
