1349664 Silicon oxynitride articles NORTON CO 21 June 1971 [29 June 1970] 28933/71 Heading C1A Shaped silicon oxynitride articles are prepared by firing a pre-shaped reaction mix of silica and silicon in a nitrogen containing atmosphere, part of the silica, preferably from 2 to 15% by weight of the reaction mix exclusive of temporary binders, being present as a colloidal powder with a particle size of not more than 0À5 Á. The remainder of the silica present is preferably fused silica. The invention also comprises a raw batch for the production of shaped articles of Si 2 ON 2 consisting of silica, silicon and a temporary binder, pressed to shape, wherein at least 2% by weight (e.g. 2-15%) of the mix, apart from the temporary binder, consists of particles of silica not larger than 0À5 Á (e.g. fume silica). |
