<p>Vinyl chloride is grafted on to polyethylene and/or an ethylene copolymer with a minor amt. of another olefin, by polymsn. in presence of an ethylene polymer having a melt index of 250 or less, and 0.2-4 double bonds and/or 5-30 methyl gp. per 1,000 carbon atoms, and under a vinyl chloride partial pressure less than the satd. vapour pressure of vinyl chloride at the polymsn. temp. Gives a high degree of grafting and a homogeneous product, without formation of vinyl chloride homopolymer. The graft copolymer can be mixed with other resins, esp. vinyl chloride polymers, to give transparent, shock resistant compns.</p> |
