The shaft has one or more troughs(1, 18) in the bottom(10), with a peripheral wall(12) extending upwards is integral. Openings (32) in the wall connect the troughs to pipes(22,24). Prefabricated tubular unions(26,28,30) enclose the openings and are moulded into the wall, and connect external pipes(26,28,30) to the troughs. The unions can be flush with the inner peripheral surface of the wall, while they can protrude beyond the outer one. They can be of material, typically plastics, different from that used for the wall and bottom. A peripheral spigot(14) can be formed on the wall top edge. ADVANTAGE - Simplicity of manufacture and adaptability to different connection requirements.
