The repair comprises applying a 2-component plastic material (I) contg. (a) a polyacrylate-methacrylate and (b) a hardener contg. a peroxide, esp. benzoyl peroxide. The repair involves precoating the nail and an area 1-3 mm wide around the nail with a thick film-forming layer of a solventless aq., as far a possible colourless and transparent plastic dispersion (III), and drying the layer and applying (I). Pref. a nail care set comprsies 3 separate containers for components (a), (b) and (III). Pref. (I) is an anionic copolymer dispersion based on an acrylate ester and styrene. Pref., (III) is applied with a brush and dried in 2-5 mins. w.r.t. ambient temp.). Components (a) and (b) are mixed in an open pot and applied with a brush, and the material hardens in 10-15 mins. and may be shaped with nail scissors or files. ADVANTAGE - Precoating with (III) improves the adhesion of (I) to the natural fingernail and protects the surrounding skin from contact with the peroxide hardener
