The vice has a bed plate (1) with guideways for a slide (3) carrying the movable jaw (4). Under the fixed jaw (2) is a force amplifier (7) which exerts a tensile force (Z) on a pull rod (9) when the actuating sleeve (B) is rotated by the pull rod. To convert the vice to the extended range, the pull rod (9) is uncoupled by removal of a cross-pin (11) and the movable jaw and leadscrew assembly transferred to the bed plate extension (13). The bed plate and extension are secured to the machine table and a pull rod extension (16) secured between the force amplifier and pull rod (9) by cross-pins (11, 21). USE/ADVANTAGE - Range of vice can be extended without distorting machine table.
