A device includes a core of magnetic material, a first electrical circuit having a primary inductor (18) wrapped around at least a portion of the core, and a second electrical circuit having a secondary inductor (20) wrapped around at least a portion of the core. The first circuit is designed for connection to the lamp (12), and the primary inductor (18) is arranged in the first circuit in a manner such that a variation in the inductance of the primary inductor (18) will cause a corresponding variation in the intensity of light emitted by the lamp. The second circuit includes a control device (26) for varying electrical current passing through the secondary inductor (20) to cause variations in the degree of saturation of the core, the inductance of the primary inductor (18), changing in the intensity. The primary inductor (18) surrounds a portion of the lamp (12). |
