<p>Molten metal (12) dispensed upon the surface (20, 38, 45, 50, 60) of an adjacent rotating drum (19, 64) produces a ribbon (34) of solidified metal which separates from the drum (19, 64) while the drum (19, 64) is rotating. To prevent ripples from forming in the surface of the ribbon (34), a casting surface (20, 38, 45, 50, 60) on the periphery of the rotating drum (19, 64) includes structure (40, 44, 47, 56) to minimize the ratio of transverse heat flow rate from the casting surface (20, 38, 45, 50, 60) to radial heat flow rate.</p> |
