The gas scrubber has the following features; scrubbing takes places in three scrubbing stages (I,II,III) in a plastic apparatus; stage (I) is in the form of a gas passage (1.1) with a perforated roof for distributing the scrubbing liquid; an absorption washing takes place in stage I and the gas is cooled to below it dew point; in stage 11, a double-walled construction is used, and the adsorption medium is contained in portable, easily-exchanged baskets with perforated floor (1.6 to 1.8) in the inner "dry" section, and in the "wet" outer section the scrubbing liquid is cooled by a water-cooled coil (4.3); and the lower part of the scrubber (stage (IV) is in the form of a collection vessel (1.2) with an overflow weir, two water neutralisation tanks (1.3, 1.4) and a gravel filter (1.5). The residual heat in the gas, including the latent heat, is transferred to the cooling pipe (4.3) and is used for pre-heating the feed water of the heating plant; and cooling water (4.4) for the scrubber is taken from the base of a water storage vessel (4.1), and is returned to its upper part. This vessel acts as a feedwater storage vessel for the heating plant. USE/ADVANTAGE - Especially for the exhaust gas from heating boilers with output of up to 1000 kW. sulphur cpds. are removed, carbon monoxide and dioxide and nitrogen oxides are greatly reduced, the gas is cooled to the ambient temperature, and the waste heat is put to good use.
