Electric-motor driven steering gear e.g. for endless tracked vehicle - uses mechanical coupling between track motor and slip-ring rotor device for its rotation at correct angle

To provide sufficient ground clearance each separate steerable track (11-14) has its own electric motor (32) coupled to a slip ring rotor induction motor (35) and fed from the same three-phase supply. The rotor windings of the induction motors (35,35') on opposite sides of the vehicle are connected cophasally. Under each transverse support (16,17), a bearing (20) is provided for a steering shaft (21) which protrudes from the track and carries a roller (22) in forced contact with a rail (23). ADVANTAGE - The space between tracks is left free from projections of the spindle drive when the tracks are parallel during negotiation of a curve.
