Flow control valve for the power assisted steering system of a vehicle having an axially displaceable, spring loaded flow control piston (3) in a valve bore (2). The face (4) of the piston has a control edge (14) by means of which a flow cross section in an outflow channel (15) is variable. A rounded shoulder section (17) is provided on the control edge at the transition point to the surface (16). In addition the control edge has a negative chamfer (18) and between the negative chamfer and the rounded section, a positive chamfer (21) is provided. USE/ADVANTAGE - Arrangement which reduces noise emanating from the control piston of a valve in a vehicle steering system.
