The machinery has stands to hold the cans. The full and empty cans trasnporter exchanges with those on the stands. The front row of cans on the stand are moved apart so a mechanism on the trolley, which runs parallel to the machine, may intersect to change a can on a fixed stand near to the machine. The machine (S) pref. has a series of working positions, which require a supply of fibre in the form of a roving or sliver. This is held in bulk in the card cans (Ka-Kz) and (ra - ry), each supplying to one working position. The row of cans (ka - kz) near the machine are pref. held in a fixed position, and the front row (ra - ry) are supported on a base of rollers (R). This may alloy the can on the rollers to move apart sufficiently for a can (5) to be brought forward and replaced. The can changeover is effected by a trolley, which runs on a rail at the front of the cans. There is a mechanism with two-part drive, to extend and connect to the base roller ends (24), to form a drive in alternate pairs, with spring clutches so a drive may be given to the right or to the left. Sensors (47,48) are used to determine the extent of the drive. The rollers have a friction surface to engage the base of the cans. USE - Used to stack card cans in the smallest possible space and gives access at time of can changeover, with the least amt. of movement and disruption to continuous running.
