A material for the production of moulds for castings from titanium and other corrosive metal melts which is used as the stabilising medium for fine casting moulds made by the slip or mould casting process, which are inert in relation to the metal melt concerned, is characterized in that its composition is such that the ceramic fine casting mould is held under compressive stress during its sintering process and during the casting cycle.
