The invention concerns a telecommunications network in which connections are directed from a terminal (A) at the transmit end via an origin node (ON) and via transit nodes (TN1, ..., TN7) to a terminal (B) at the receive end. The origin node number, the calling party number, the destination node code, and the called party number are contained in signalling data for the connection which is to be established. In the nodes involved in establishing the connection, a check is carried out as to whether the calling party number needs to be modified, and in some cases the calling party number extended and in other cases extended and abbreviated.
