The printed scanning coil of the parent application which comprises a flexible base supporting two mutually insulated overlapping rectangular waveform conductive patterns, arranged with the transverse parts superimposed and the longitudinal parts staggered, wound to form a cylinder, is modified by arranging the conductors of the transverse parts of the waveform so that in adjacent layers they are offset from one another. This reduces the capacitance of the coil. As shown, Fig. 1, two rectangular waveforms are formed side by side on one face of a flexible base 1 by etching a copper coating, the base is slit along the centre line 8 between registration strips 11 and 12 and folded along this line so that the conductors are on the outside faces of the resulting strip. The strip is then wound to form a cylindrical scanning coil, Fig. 2 (not shown), a thin strip of insulating material being inserted between adjacent turns. The coil is then impregnated with an adhesive. The relative size of each cycle of the waveforms is selected so that the conductors are correctly aligned when rolled. Each pattern comprises a plurality of conductors, each of which is the same width as the spaces between them, and the conductors in the two patterns are positioned so that when rolled the conductors of adjacent transverse parts of the patterns are offset, Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown). Each conductor may be subdivided to reduce eddy currents. |
