A method for managing VTAM sessions between a terminal or other logical unit and an application program, including bypassing of SENDs between application-to-application sessions; reblocking of request/response units RU; conversion of VTAM macro instructions in unauthorized-path mode to authorized-path mode; converting SEND POST=RESP to SEND POST=SCHED; maintaining a SEND PEND queue while in contention mode; and mapping-type optimization using local formatted storage.
