PURPOSE:To perform smooth running with a saved fuel consumption by switching to the neutral running when the inertia condition is detected while the neutral running is prohibited when the relative distance from the preceding car being measured comes into the limit range. CONSTITUTION:The speed sensor 1 generates the speed signal corresponding to the running speed. The nutral valve 7 is provided at the starting point of the hydraulic route of the transmission mechanism 4 and when the drive signal is applied, the route is closed to have the transmission mechanism 4 forcibly switched to the neutral position. The radar on the vehicle 12 emits the searching wave forward to measure the relative speed with the preceding car by the Dopper effect. The signal from the speed sensor 1, the control signal from the acceleration sensor 9, the signal of the resetting switch 10, the signal of the N switch 11 and measurement signals of the relative speed are received to execute a given computation on the neutral control program to emit the signal for switching to the neutral state.
