1,100,768. Bunghole bushes. VAN LEER INDUSTRIES Ltd. 22 Aug., 1966 [2 Sept., 1965], No. 37520/65. Heading B8T. [Also in Division B5] A thermoplastic bushing 11, for receiving a closure bung or stopper, comprises hollow cylindrical portions 12 and 14 and a flange portion 13. The bushing is located in an opening in a wall (16), Fig. 4 (not shown), by first heating the flange and the lower region of the portion 12 until the material in said portions has softened or melted, inserting the portion 12 into the opening, and finally curling over the lower end of said portion between cooled dies (18) and (20) to form a second flange portion (17), Fig. 5 (not shown), the sheet being firmly clamped between this and the flange portion 13. The bushing may be made of polythene and the wall may be fibrous, so that it is impregnated by and thus firmly bonded with the melted material of the bushing, or may be coated on one or both sides by a thermoplastic material which will fuse with the material of the bushing. |
