Date Mar. 21, 1991.A multi-cylinder internal combustion engine with an air intake system and an exhaust gas collection system has an exhaust gas recirculation apparatus for reducing toxic emissions. To operate the engine with a turbocharger and charge air cooler, the exhaust gas recirculation apparatus has an exhaust gas distributor, branching off from which is a number of end pipes corresponding to the number of cylinders of the engine. The exahust gas distributor is connected to the exhaust gas pipe of one cylinder, while the exhaust gas pipes of the other cylinders communicate with an exhaust gas manifold. The end pipes of the exhaust gas distributor each discharge into cylinder intake pipes immediately upstream of the inlet valve of the cylinders. |
