The present invention relates to a method for measuring the relative position of the axes on an opening (11) and of a cylindrical contour (14) of a sample (3). The method includes the following steps: - inserting a calibrated gauge rod (15) into the said opening (11); - taking measurements in order to determine at least one pair of segments representing the mid-points M respectively of the cylindrical contour (14) and of the calibrated gauge rod (15). The measurements are made using a light beam which is scanned parallel to itself in a direction perpendicular to the axis 1 of the cylindrical contour (14). The coaxiality and/or the concentricity of the axis of the contour (14) and of the opening (11) can thus be measured. <IMAGE>
