Powder consisting of one or more cpds. of M and R with hexagonal crystal structure (M is Co opt. combined with Fe, Ni and/or Cu and R is rare earth(s), Y or Th, M5R units) is oriented in a magnetic field, compressed and sintered at temp. above critical sintering temp. for compsn. Pref. M = Co, R = Sm, and sintering temp.
