PURPOSE:To provide the new triterpene glucoside not having unpleasant tastes such as an astringent or bitter taste and a sweetness-reducing action, and having a saccharide absorption-inhibiting action. CONSTITUTION:1-[3beta-(16beta,2beta-Dihydroxyolean-12-ene)oxy]-2-O-bet a-D-glucose-beta-D- glucuronic acid of the formula. The objective glucoside is obtained by extracting the leaves of Gymnema inodorum widely distributed in the Southeast Asia with a solvent, drying the extract solution, washing the dry product with an acid for removing basic components, defatting the remained product, extracting with acetone, drying the filtrate, extracting the dry product with diethyl carbonate, dissolving the obtained crude crystals in methanol, subjecting the solution to a HPLC, separating a fraction of 31.0-33.0min, and subsequently recrystallizing the fraction with a 50/50 acetone/chloroform mixture solvent. |
