PURPOSE:To obtain an oxidation catalyst capable of highly efficiently oxidizing methane particularly under the condition of low temp. and high ratio of gas flow rate/catalyst volume and having heat resistance even at >=1000 deg.C. CONSTITUTION:This oxidation catalyst is produced by depositing one or more kind of metals of group Ib, group Va, group VIa, group VIIa, group element or their oxides and oxide of rare earth element or oxide of alkali earth element on the carrier and consisting of multiple oxide of zirconium and aluminum, by depositing the catalyst on a honeycomb heat resistant base material consisting of cordierite, mullite or a crystalline multiple oxide consisting of MgO, Al2O3, TiO2. |
