PURPOSE:To engage the lock up clutch of a torque converter at minimum engaging force even if running resistance varies. CONSTITUTION:In the steps S21 and S22, the gradient theta of a road face is calculated as theta=cos<-1>g/G based on the detection value G of a G sensor which detects the acceleration of a vehicle in the vertical direction. On the other hand, a control value for engaging a lock up clutch by minimum engaging force is stored according to the gradient theta of the road face beforehand. Based on the actual gradient theta of the road face detected previously, the control value nearly equal to the minimum engaging force corresponding to the gradient theta is determined referring to the stored data in the step S23. Such referred data is used as an actual control value in the step S24. |
