PURPOSE:To industrially and advantageously obtain the subject compounds useful as an intermediate, etc., for producing medicines such as a coronary vasodilator by enzymically and asymmetrically reducing 2-phenyl-1,5- benzothiazepin-3,4(2H,5H)-diones. CONSTITUTION:A dried baker's yeast such as Saccharomyces.cerevisiae is suspended in a buffer solution containing glucose and a solution containing 2-phenyl-1,5-benzothiazepin-3,4(2H,5H)-diones expressed by formula I (rings A and B are benzene rings which may have a substituent group such as lower alkyl, lower alkoxy or halogen) in dimethylformamide is added to the resultant buffer solution, reacted at 37 deg.C for 24hr by shaking, enzymically and asymmetrically reduced. Ethyl acetate is then added to the reactional solution and the extraction is carried out by stirring. Thereby, microbial cells are removed by filtration and an organic layer is separated, dehydrated and dried. The solvent is subsequently distilled away under reduced 3-hydroxy-2-phenyl-2,3- dihydro-1,5-benzothiazepin-4(5H)-ones expressed by formula II. |
