This apparatus comprises means (3) for reading a certain number of function codes (16) accommodated on a card (15). These function codes (16) are accommodated at a different position on the card (15). Memory means (12) are provided for storing data at one or more groups of addresses, each of these groups of addresses including one or more addresses (19). Each of these addresses corresponds to one of the function codes (16). Data display means (4) are also provided for displaying stored data from one or more of the groups of addresses. The physical relationship between the said reading means (3) and the said card (15) is capable of being modified so as to enable the reading means (3) to read each of the function codes (16) separately. This apparatus is intended, for example, to be incorporated in a telephone apparatus or in a telefax transmission apparatus. <IMAGE>
