PRODUCTION OF OPTICAL FIBER

PURPOSE:To produce an optical fiber while shortening the time until the speed is reduced to a linear velocity at which the bobbins can be exchanged. CONSTITUTION:When bobbins are exchanged, an optical fiber preform 1 is moved in the direction opposite to the direction of feeding the preform 1 to a heating and melting furnace 2, and the line velocity is reduced while controlling the speed at which an optical fiber 11 is taken by a take-off machine so that the outer diameter of the optical fiber 11 is kept within the allowable limits when the bobbins are exchanged.
