PURPOSE:To eliminate the time delay due to the movement of a piston from the initial position to the position at which the piston exerts pressing force on a clutch plate in engaging a clutch. CONSTITUTION:When the conditions for engaging a clutch 50 are satisfied, oil of specified quantity is sent to the oil chamber 68 of the clutch 50 before it is engaged. For this purpose, an accumulator 62 having an oil chamber of a specified capacity for charging the clutch is used. The quantity of the oil sent to the clutch 50 is set to move a piston 65 to a position just before the position at which the piston exerts pressing force on a clutch plate 62. When the oil pressure of the oil chamber 68 of the clutch 50 is raised at desired timing from this state, the clutch 50 immediately starts engagement. |
